Chinati Foundation

Chinati FoundationWed-Sun 9am–5pm

The creative spirit of Marfa is focused at the Chinati Foundation’s contemporary art museum located on the 340 acres of the former Fort D.A. Russell where founding artist Donald Judd made his mark in West Texas. The foundation works to preserve and present large-scale installations, focusing on art that interacts with landscape surroundings. Visitors can explore on their own or take guided tours.

Judd Foundation

Judd Foundation

Get an up-close look at the former living and studio spaces of artist Donald Judd, an iconic part of Marfa’s artistic foundations. The Judd Foundation works to preserve Judd’s creative vision by opening the spaces for public viewing, part of a mission of encouraging direct engagement of Judd’s concept of permanent installation in the Chihuahuan Desert. Visitors can schedule guided visits.

Marfa Gliders

Marfa Gliders

At nearly a mile above sea level, the arid winds of the Chihuahua Desert provide a not-to-miss chance to see Marfa and beyond while riding a long-winged glider toward the horizon and an eagle’s eye view of the Davis Mountains. Master flight instructor Burt Compton and his teachers tow visitors high in the air and them turn them loose in an FAA-licensed glider on a smooth path they’ll never forget.

Marfa Maid Goat Farm

Marfa Maid Goat Farm

A stop at “the little dairy on the prairie” offers visitors a charming look at the goat milking and cheese making operation owners Malinda Beeman and Allan McClane brought to Marfa in 2006. Schedule a tour to see up close how a small dairy operation works daily, while the cheese making classes – with the requisite tastings and take-home samples at the end – make for a delicious visit every time.
